The Exodus

HYT is heading to the lower 48 for a week. We might be updating the next post with a sick goggle tan.

There’s a backcountry film festival in Palmer on the 5th and 6th of February.
This is being set up through the Winter Wildlands Alliance and the Palmer Arts Council.

The festival “promotes the work of grassroots filmakers who tell compelling stories of backcountry, non-motorized recreation and environmental preservation.”

Stuff like this doesn’t come to Palmer that often and it’d be great if a bunch of people made it to the show:

For snow updates check our linked blogs or the linked weather pages on the right.  Pray for snow! We need it!

Our departure typically means it will dump where we are not.  You’re welcome.

Turns everyday keep the doctor away

Here’s a quick edit that coincides with a past update.  It’s all helmet cam footage but it turned out OK.  I left the fall in the beginning because, hey…we all fall.  Enjoy!

Music is “Wake Up” by The Arcade Fire.

Looks like CNFAIC has added a Friday and Saturday Summit Lake Avy Advisory.  This is big news for those of you riding down on the Kenai.  Also, in a continuation of interesting updates, a student at APU (possibly a Forest Service Intern?) is conducting a survey to gauge the need and desire for a Chugach Front Range Avy Advisory.  Here’s a link to the survey.

My question is, where the crap is a Hatcher Pass avalanche forecast center?  I’d throw some money down on that.  I have to think that there are usually more people riding and snowmachining in the mountains surrounding Palmer and Wasilla then in the Chugach Front Range.  Maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe I should do a survey? All I know is that I see A LOT of kids bootpacking up the west Marmot and El Dorado on bluebird days. Would an advisory mean more people?

The high pressure seems to be persisting for a few more days at least.  There was some interesting bath tub ring inversions this weekend, with huge surface hoar being created at lower elevations.  It was pretty breezy in Palmer yesterday, so maybe it all got blown away.  There is some precip in the forecast towards the end of the work week, but according to NOAA it will be mostly confined to coastal areas.  Who knows, a lot can change in 5 days.

In there somewhere!

The snow and riding has been great.  I will honestly say I am too worked from the last 5 days to write a legitimate update.  A lot of lines have been ridden at the pass.

My friends will give me a hard time for saying it but…There is no better time than now to get out and explore your options! Live it up and get after it! New update soon!
